Made a load of tweaks to the ini files as reccomended by people on the epic forums and it runs ok now.
Good points :
The gameplay speed is fast.
New shock rifle has smaller cores and they move quicker so takes more skill to use
Flak primaray feels much nicer
Rockets fly quicker.
Link gun is much improved its like a cross between the plasma gun and the Lightning Gun (both from quake 3).
Jump boots, lol great fun.
Bad points
No dodge jump, just a little one would have been better than nothing, but no. Seems a waste to have finally mastered this from playing UT for years and it not featuring.
No spectate option, server list is very buggy.
Stupid great walker laser vehicle thing on one of the maps kept killing me over and over again.
On low gfx settings it was hard to see the opponent even with the brighter skins that have been implemented.
Any changes to video settings were lost after exiting the game, so need to be set up every time you want to play.
Keep getting killed by noobs with rocket launchers :S

weird mate you seemed to have loads of problems ??
i ran the game on a low spec pc to test it out first.. (OH it has to be Vista as the drivers api for graphics are better)

seemed to work very fast indeed, the rendering was shite but seemed better if everything is turned on full !!
you can dodge or at least i can in instant action ! its just the same as in Unreal Championship 2 (in fact the whole game is with a bit of gears textures thrown in)
if you have a leaked verion dont use it its out of date and too buggy. best to get the lastest version of gamershell and any new patches epic release.
Pops told me he had been playing ok with the beta ! mind you the linux servers sux big time !
