was installing winXp and failing on a new system for my m8, basically the harddrive did not want to boot. 160gb brand new.
So the installation was going round in circles in xp. Strugged for nearly a week with this, using google to help.
Never had a problem like this before anyways tried installing vista and seemd to have better luck until it said it couldnt find a bootable volume, ffs i thought.
So being that it must be hardware thats causing the problem i changed ide cables and bugger me that worked, turned out it was a incorrect ide cable type causing the problem.

I had the same prob when i stuck a 40 pin ide instead of an 80 and the drive wouldnt register! The problem is they look the same which is stoopid tbh.the 40 pin are for dvd roms etc,and the 80 r for h/drives etc.I always use aftermarket rounded ide cables ,never the flat ribbon ones cos they impeed airflow and are generally shit!
