As long as the response time is below 8ms the monitor should play games well ! Make sure the resolution goes to at least 1600x1200,as this will accomodate for future upgrades (SLI) etc |

i have been a fan of Benq's technology for years and finally they have made a TFT that would get old BB off CRTs wOOt !!!
all TFTs ghost even 2ms ones (but not that noticable) to some degree also tearing if the gpu refresh aint set right (ive always said this)....
now put that aside this has to be the best TFT ive ever seen from Benq and it pwns there older version which they released back in may this year which was the fastest TFT (last year it was the viewsonic)......
now the new AMA-Z technology ive been waiting for is here no ghosting and a response time of wait for it 0 (zero ms )....
http://www.benq.com/products/LCD/?product=839
as you can see in the chart its very close to CRT quality now which is great !
but its only a matter of time before another company or Benq finally make a CRT quality TFT.
now i just wish i had the fucking money for one !!! ffs !
o well !
ps, forgot to mention .. 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) resolution etc

I bought 2x 19" wide screen GNR tfts that have a 4ms res time and max res of 1600x1200.BB is rite on the tearing issue tbh refresh rates (correct) do make a big difference! ive found the best res on a wide screen for ut is 1280x 960 with a refresh rate of 120mhz |

aye a good model it is...
like i said kirtap there manufacturing them better these days, olly, sam & dave have decent models.
Yep CRTs probably are better for gaming still at the moment, but not by far now as the gap closes, plus CRT's are so fecking big and very very bad for your eyes !!
One single CRT puts out a 1 foot circumference of radiation (sphere), more so from the front of the screen but also behind from the tube.
i know this cos we have a detector at work, quite off putting when you see this in action around equipment.
CRT's are supposed to be phased out by 2008 so you will need to think about getting a model soon like the one i mentioned with Z layering & zero ms response etc they will be alot cheaper by then !!
i hope stan you cn find one cheap enough for you, with low ms response, theretically anything under 10ms is ok for gaming, anything higher and its just not worth it for games.

That would be saffer for your eyes than a 0ms response screen :/
ms response has nothing to do with radiation !!!
TFTs are much safer, i tested a TFT at work it gave out no radiation from its screen, the psu at the rear was the only part that gave a few inches circumference radation threshold !!
also a wireless router gives out a tonne more radiation than a TFT !!
in fact desktop speakers give out more magnetic and power radiation than a TFT !
nuff said tbh ! lol |

I got ViewSonic VX924, which is almost the same as Olly's choice. Specs are slightly lower, 3ms, contrast 500:1 against VX922's 650:1 etc.
No shadowing or whatever, it is crystal clear and sharp, UT plays great with it. I would never go back to any CRT after having this one.

you make no sence m8,
all i can say bout eyes is...
CRTs produce alot of radiation due to cothode rays, bad for eyes and you will end up needing glasses after years of using em probs.
TFT LCD produce hardly any radiation so wether its 0 ms or whatever its still going to be better for your eyes.
ive used CRTs everyday for 5 years solid and my eyes feel shot threw tbh i get headaches alot and migranes, but my boss is too stingy to fork out for TFTs.
picture quality does not degrade your eyes or hurt your eyes, rays comming from a cathode tube are bad especially if the contrast and brightness is high.

I think Kirtap is talking about flickering, not radiation. A fast response time together with low vertical refresh rate (typically 60Hz) can cause significant flickering, which is bad for both eyes and brain, regardless of used technology, CRT or TFT
